Paleo Cocoa Almond Spread

Prep: 5 min, Total Time: 10min

Naturally sweetened with dates, this delicious chocolatey spread is the perfect addition to oats, toast, yogurt, pretzels, etc!

Recently I’ve been getting really into trying to find and create recipes for sweet treats that not only make my body feel good, but also satisfy the deeper need to have something delicious and special. This is one of the first ones that I truly hit the nail on the head. Similar to a Nutella or brownie batter hummus texture, it satisfies every chocolate craving without the sugar crash or stomach ache. Even better, it’s so easy and quick! Let’s get to it:

You will need:

  • 12 dates
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup almond butter (ish…I normally make this when I’m starting to run low and just empty the container – no need to worry if all you have is the thicker, drier part on the bottom of the jar – anything works!)
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • generous pinch of salt

Start by removing the pits from all your dates. Then submerge all of them in warm water for 5-10 minutes. After they’ve soaked, remove them and toss straight into your blender along with some of the hot water. Blend generously until smooth, adding more hot water if needed for texture purposes. I normally like to pour the coconut milk into my almond butter container and shake it to help remove any excess on the sides of the container and then pour all the milk/almond butter into the mix. Finally, add the vanilla and salt, and blend until smooth. Eat straight away, or as I prefer, store in the fridge and wait until it’s nice and cold to dip some pretzels in and enjoy by the spoonful!

Hope you enjoy!
